Assistant Chief Bryan Southard has faithfully served this department and the people of DeSoto for the past 18 years and has worked his way up through the ranks before assuming his current title in May of 2018. In addition to protecting the lives and property of DeSoto residents through his firefighting efforts, Bryan has played a hands-on role in saving the lives of countless residents who have experienced medical emergencies and required the intervention of DeSoto’s paramedics. He also oversees day-to-day operations of the DeSoto Fire Training Center. Chief Southard has spent many hours in the classroom sharpening his skills while securing his Associates Degree in Fire Administration and his Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management and Public Safety. He has worked hard to obtain the titles of EMT Coordinator, Fire Officer IV, Fire Instructor III, and Master Firefighter. Bryan is a proud graduate of the EMS Chief’s Academy and the Texas Fire Chief’s Academy.
